Mikiya Kobayashi ILY-Ai
The ILY-Ai is an innovative electric scooter made by Japanese designer Mikiya Kobayashi in a cooperation with automotive company Aisin Seiki and Karimoku, one of the main wood-furniture manufacturers in Japan. The company was founded in 2012 and has won many prestigious design awards, including a Red Dot Design Award and the iF Gold Award 2017.
The scooter is made of chestnut wood which is one of the lightest hardwoods available – around 75 per cent lighter than oak – and highly water-resistant. The frame of the scooter is aluminium. The scooter is designed for both indoor and outdoor public spaces.
The scooter has a comfortable leather saddle.
The speed of the scooter can be adjusted. By default, the speed is restricted at 4 km/h for use in indoor spaces.
The scooter has a built-in safety sensor that automatically stops the scooter to prevent a collision, to ensure safety in crowded spaces.
While the scooter is a concept, it is intended for sale. The scooter may be available upon request.
